Modern Dermal Facial Fillers are synthetically produced gel-like implants that are based upon agents that are already naturally found in the body. Juvederm^TM and Radiesse^TM are amont the most commonly used injectable fillers in Cincinnati.

In the case of Juvederm, that substance is Hyaluronic Acid, or HA, a common component of the dermis (along with collagen and elastin) and the body's connective tissues. HA retains water like a sponge, absorbing more than 1000 times its weight. For Radiesse, the substance is Calcium Hydroxyapatite which is a component of bones and teeth. What are the differences in the products?  Juvaderm is a softer product so it can be injected through smaller needles making it a good choice for lips. Radiesse is thicker and is injected a little deeper, so it is used in areas where more filler is desired. It often lasts a year or longer.

Is it better than Botox?  Fillers and Botox are used differently. Botox relaxes muscles causing creases, usually in the upper 1/3 of the face. Fillers are used to plump creases in areas where relaxing muscle is undesirable, such as the lower 2/3 of the face.
